There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from caring deeply about people and knowing you cannot control what happens to them.
Maybe you’re a single mother carrying the financial, emotional, and spiritual responsibilities of raising your children. There are decisions to make, needs to meet, and questions that don’t always have clear answers.
Or perhaps you’ve spent years intentionally teaching your children values and principles that matter deeply to you. Yet the voices surrounding them seem louder than ever, pulling them toward choices you hoped they wouldn’t have to navigate.
You want to give them a strong foundation. But you can’t control every influence, every decision, or every outcome.
And that can feel incredibly heavy.
The Hidden Pressure Beneath Overwhelm
Sometimes the weight isn’t simply what you’re responsible for.
It’s what you believe might happen if you get it wrong.
When something matters deeply, your brain and nervous system may respond by becoming more alert. You might find yourself anticipating problems, replaying conversations, or searching for one more thing you could do.
These responses can be attempts to protect what matters to you.
But staying on high alert doesn’t necessarily give you more influence over the outcome. It can leave you exhausted, even when you’re doing everything you know to do.
A Different Way to Respond
What if, instead of immediately trying harder, you became curious about what’s happening inside you?
The next time you feel that familiar pressure, pause and ask yourself:
What am I afraid might happen if I don’t get this right?
Notice what comes up without judging yourself.
Then consider:
What is actually mine to do right now?
You can be intentional without controlling every outcome.
You can love deeply without carrying every decision someone else makes.
And you can invite God into the uncertainty rather than waiting until you’ve figured everything out.
You are not alone in feeling this weight. And you don’t have to carry all of it to be a loving, faithful woman.
