Have you ever noticed how something you genuinely care about can begin to feel overwhelming?
You want to be a good mother, love your family well, serve faithfully, and make a meaningful difference.
But somewhere along the way, the questions begin.
Am I doing enough? What am I missing? What if I let someone down?
And suddenly, something that matters deeply to you starts feeling heavy.
What If It’s Not Just Everything You Have to Do?
Recently, I experienced this while thinking about the teen girls I’m serving in my church.
It’s been 30 years since I’ve been involved in the youth program at our church, and there’s a lot to learn!
As I considered their needs and my desire to serve intentionally, I noticed pressure building inside me.
The responsibilities were real. But so were the expectations I was placing on myself.
And that’s an important distinction.
Overwhelm Is Information
Our brains and bodies are constantly interpreting what’s happening around us and within us.
Sometimes, without realizing it, we’ve developed patterns that tell us we must anticipate every need, get everything right, or make sure no one is disappointed.
These Hidden Patterns™ can create pressure even when we’re doing something we love.
But what if overwhelm isn’t evidence that we’re failing?
What if it’s information worth understanding?
Instead of immediately asking, How do I get everything done? we can begin with a different question:
What’s happening inside me as I think about everything I need to do?
That question creates room for curiosity rather than judgment.
And curiosity can open the door to a different response.
Discover a New Way Through Overwhelm
I’ll be exploring this more deeply at the upcoming LDS Mental Health Skills Conference, November 9–13, 2026.
My presentation is titled:
A New Way Through Overwhelm: The Missing Skill Most Women Never Learn
I’ll be sharing a practical skill to help you understand what’s happening in your mind, body, and spirit so you can respond with greater clarity and intention.
I’d love for you to join me!
Early Bird registration ends October 18. With my presenter discount, tickets are $56.25.
