Lead from Freedom | Week 3 – Uproot the Lies
Have you ever kept quiet–not because you didn’t have something to say, but because it felt safer not to speak?
That was true for me for years.
I didn’t recognize it at the time, but one of the deepest roots beneath my 12-year battle with depression was a vow of silence.
I didn’t speak up. I didn’t ask for help. I kept everything under wraps–especially during my hardest seasons. I thought I was being strong. But in reality, my nervous system had slipped into a freeze-fawn pattern. It was doing its job: protecting me.
Even now, years into my healing journey, I notice the old silence show up when I feel unsafe being fully seen–especially with people I love.
🌳 The Root of Silence
In my coaching work, I use the metaphor of a tree:
- Roots = subconscious beliefs and protective patterns
- Trunk = the nervous system (how those beliefs travel into action)
- Branches = behaviors, habits, coping strategies
- Fruit = visible outcomes: peace, joy, energy, connection—or the lack of them
One of the root beliefs that shaped me deeply was this:
“No one wants to hear from me.”
I don’t remember deciding that.
But my silence proved it was driving me.
🕊 A Simple Reset for the Silenced
Recently, I tried a nervous system reset I now return to often:
One hand over my heart, one over my throat, and a hum.
That’s it.
But the moment I did it–tears came. It was as if my body had been waiting for permission to speak more fully.
So I’ve started practicing it daily.
Because God didn’t create me to stay hidden.
He created me to speak with compassion, clarity, and truth.
And the same is true for you.
✨ What Lie Has Shaped Your Silence?
You may not call it a vow of silence.
But if you find yourself shrinking, second-guessing, or staying quiet when you long to speak, there may be a root worth tending to.
You don’t have to start by declaring your truth to the world.
Just start by speaking with you.
Speak to yourself with kindness.
Speak to God with honesty.
Speak your truth in a whisper, a journal, or a hum–until your body learns it’s safe to be fully seen and heard.
Because here’s the truth:
The Holy Spirit doesn’t silence your voice. He strengthens it.
Even if others misunderstand.
Even if your insight makes someone uncomfortable.
Even if you’re still healing the wound that taught you to stay quiet.
You’re not weak.
You’re not broken.
You’re rooted in protection and healing is possible.
🔎 Reflect
What’s one truth you’ve been holding back that it’s time to speak–even just to yourself or to God?
