Many women don’t realize how quickly they move back into “doing.”
Many women say they want rest.
But when things finally get quiet…
they feel restless.
They reach for their phone.
Start another task.
Mentally review what still needs to get done.
Not because they’re failing at rest.
But because slowing down can feel unfamiliar to a body that has learned to stay “on.”
I see this often with women who carry a lot of responsibility.
Their nervous system becomes so used to anticipating, planning, and holding everything together that stillness starts to feel uncomfortable.
Sometimes even unsafe.
So instead of slowing down, they move back into doing.
Not because they’re lazy.
Not because they’re broken.
But because the body learned that staying productive felt safer than fully settling.
That realization changes things.
Instead of asking:
“Why can’t I relax?”
The question becomes:
“What has my body learned about slowing down?”
That question creates compassion.
And compassion creates space for something new.
