It all started with my birthday on Sunday—I turned 54! 🎂
As the day went on, I noticed a LOT of brain chatter. You might think it was about wrinkles or the fact that I’m now over half a century young 😳. But surprisingly, that wasn’t the case. The chatter was about something much deeper—friendships that were once central to my life but have since faded.
Two main messages echoed in my mind:
1. *You’re not good enough for that friendship to have lasted.*
2. *The really good friends you have now will eventually leave you too.*
It was enough to make anyone tear up 😭, but I decided to take a different approach.
First, I simply noticed the chatter 🧐. I was intrigued by it because these specific thoughts have crossed my mind before. Though I tried to set them aside, they lingered, affecting my sleep as I tossed and turned, thinking about my upcoming bootcamp and live Zoom calls.
Then, on Monday morning, I had a huge epiphany 🤯…
I realized that the chatter was an obstacle preventing me from being at my best for the Bootcamp Zoom call. My brain was trying to protect me from potential pain and disappointment by convincing me to pull back from friendships. The immediate cost? Less capacity during the Zoom calls because I would have been stressed about those friendships.
Recognizing this allowed me to quiet the chatter and replace it with truth:
– *Friendships naturally ebb and flow 💖*
– *I choose to cherish them at every stage* 😉
Having worked on these thoughts before, I quickly recalled what I had learned, which freed me to show up to the Zoom call unfettered by the weight of that brain chatter 🙌🏼.
